Change is constantly happening. Every moment of every day things are constantly changing, growing, evolving. Some changes are small, like waking up at a different time, and some changes are big, like a new job, or marriage, or having a kid. Change is something we must accept in life, but how do we keep up with change?

Currently, my life has had many changes in the past couple months. Firstly, Jak and I found out I was pregnant March 13th, 2017. We got engaged June 3rd, 2017. We got married July 29th, 2017. I started Millennial Mrs. and Mom in August 2017. I got a job at Conscious Talk Magazine August 2017. I got promoted to Deputy Editor for the Sex & Relationships column on November 11th, 2017. I gave birth November 28th, 2017. January 7th, 2018 I decided to self-host Millennial Mrs. and Mom. January 8th, 2018 Jak changed jobs from working for my parents to working for BMW. There’s been a lot of change.

I have kept my head above water through all of this. Some of the changes were exciting and some brought along stress, but I kept moving forward and adjusting. How did I adjust? Well, there are a couple ways I adjust and keep up when life changes occur.

  • Plan
    • When I realize there is a big change in my life, I look ahead. I look at how what just changed is going to affect my future. Will finances be impacted? Will my health be impacted? Will this put a strain on relationships? Will this free up time? etc. Knowing how the current change can affect different aspects of your life can help you feel more “in control” even though, we all know, we are not in control.
  • Go With The Flow
    • This is the opposite of what I said above, but once you know how the change affects you, and if there is nothing you can do over the change in your life, just take it day by day. See how the change affects your life. Take a moment and just step back, see how things unfold, and reevaluate down the line.
  • Acceptance
    • If you don’t have control over a change in your life, come to acceptance. Accept the life change, whether it’s a positive one or a negative one. Realize that things are different, and think about how to adjust, how to thrive, when change happens.
  • Positivity
    • Stay positive. That’s easier said than done when the change is a positive one. But if the change isn’t something you feel is positive, make sure to keep positive things in your life during a transition. Write a list of all the things that are good in life, write a list of things that make you feel happy, and do them. And keep an open mind when things change. I believe things happen for a reason, and usually, at the time we have no idea why a change is happening, but down the line, we can see that X event leads to X opportunity.
